Do you have what it takes to be a good data practitioner?

As a business undertakes a list cleansing project, it will soon realize that having every employee on board is key to making a positive change in contact data quality or other file management. However, while preparing the workers for the programme, there are a few values that you should try to instill in them.

In a post for her data governance blog, Nicola Askham outlines some of the main characteristics of those who are successful data monitors.

Generating enthusiasm among your teammates will be a vital part of the overhaul project, Askham says.

"If you do not believe in what you are doing and how it can benefit your organisation, you will struggle and definitely won’t have the energy needed to drive a Data Governance project through to fruition," she warns.
Likewise, you will need team members to be capable of influencing others to also be passionate about the initiative.

Patience, tenacity and pragmatism are also valuable data quality virtues, Askham notes. The sixth characteristic is good communication, a trait that Dylan Jones emphasized in a post for the Data Roundtable.

Although address validation software or some other solution will go a long way in making a successful cleansing programme, Jones argues that communication is "the most powerful data quality tool on the market."
