Data Enhancement
The Bereavement Register
Approximately 600,000 people die in the UK every year. Mailing the deceased not
only wastes time and resources, it can be highly distressing for the bereaved relatives.
In addition to increasing costs and reducing ROI, poorly timed mailings can also
alienate potential customers.
Launched in 1999, the Bereavement Register now contains over 2 million records,
receives monthly updates of up to 50,000 names and captures details of approximately
85 percent of deaths in the UK. Data is collected via a number of channels with
the aim of providing a complete and definitive service to both the recently bereaved
and the Direct Marketing industry. In addition to a 24-hour call centre, a dedicated
website and a link to the Government’s UK Online service, registration leaflets
can now be found at more than 2,000 key points, including hospitals, solicitors,
charities and funeral directors.
